Hannie Sarris

She will always live in our minds

After a short but heavy illness Dutch Doll Artist Hannie Sarris passed away on Sunday May second. Her husband Chris Sarris was her mainstay and her beautiful sons were her pride.

Hannie discovered doll making in 1990. She was completely self taught, quite a struggle as she used to say. Because of her talent and tenacity she was able to publish her first book "Step by step doll making" in 1996 (not available anymore). Later she wrote three more books. Recently Hannie was working on a new book: "Fairy Fantasy Busts and Doll Figures". She will not finish it any more.

Hannie Sarris was the founder of the Fairy Fantasy Forum: a place where people with passion for doll making meet through the Internet. A place to ask questions about doll making, where people meet to help each other. But also the personal stories in combination with the love for doll making makes this doll forum extra special. Started with a small group of enthousiastic doll makers the forum grew and lots of warm friendships started there.

Hannie Sarris also was the founder and president of DABIDA, the Dutch and Belgian Institute of Doll Artists. DABIDA is an association of doll artists that wants to promote Doll Art by organizing the yearly DABIDA Day and the Annual DABIDA Doll Award. The DABIDA website created by Hannie is http://www.dabida.eu

Her love and passion for doll making will remain a source of inspriration for many of us.
